Got one lined up today at Sedgefield that I can not see losing. Members of the racing line can get this on the members line now, I can not see anything troubling this one today, if not yet a member sign up online now- Click Here
I need not have worried about Red Jazz yesterday, it trotted up, but I am apprehensive about unraced two year old races as a rule. I had a few quid on that one and obviously I wished it was more. We are in good form at the minute, long may that continue.
It's not the highest quality racing today. My day will revolve around the Sedgefield horse and I have also had word that Hawaas (4.10) is flying up the Middleham gallops and should overcome an absence at Pontefract today.
Pontefract holds so many memories for me. I was at University in the early nineties in West Yorkshire and I was running short of funds so I gathered up as much money as I could, borrowed, begged and was able to come up with £550. Lots of cash to me then, £550, an enormous pot. Henry Cecil had one in a Maiden and was 9-4. I got my bet on easily, in fact much easier than it would be nearly 20 years later and stood in the stands to watch the race. The horse went clear turning in and I was counting my money, but it either idled in front or the jockey (Cauthen I think) knew he had it won and eased up. The pack came, they kept coming and at the line the judge called a photo. Now it was not as quick as it is today and it took a few minutes. I was in a panic, I was sweating. The jockey took the horse into the winners enclosure and got off and said to the head lad or whoever that he had won easily. Then came the result and it had won, much to my relief. It was returned 6/4 and I told everyone it was my money that shortened it up! It was make or break that for me, and I sometimes wonder what if it had lost? Oh the folly of youth!
