Not planned but I went to Southwell today. I had a business meeting set up and the first words after the greetings were "Do You Fancy Southwell?" So we ended up at Southwell and boy was it cold, even more so when I didn't have a jacket.
Still it was a good afternoon. I managed to be up and down before I went all in on Nightjar at 11/8. It went off evens I think and I thought it was beaten from where I was standing, but on watching a TV replay he won well. So I made a few quid to boot as well as having a good meeting!
I note that there was more success for the system of laying the very short ones. 1-10 in the first race got overturned then a drifting 4-7 shot at Southwell got beaten, quite easily too. 1-10 must be the shortest price loser of the year so far? Remember lay everything 1-2 and under!
Tomorrow I shall be punting in the warmth of the office, although I do have a morning meeting in York, so you never know!

Hi Carl. How I envy you guys who still get oncourse. I'm a betting professional, like yourself, but I placebet and the only sensible place to do that is on the exchanges so most afternoons I'm confined to the office with nothing better than satelite to remind me of the good old days. I also run a service - placebetting4u.co.uk - so I can at least update clients through the course of the afternoon, but it aint the same as the buzz of being oncourse. What really finished it for me (and got me looking at alternative betting approaches) was the sudden increase in traffic. There was one day when my journey to Wetherby from Lancaster was delayed by a caravan across the Dales by just enough time to cause me to miss a very healthy profit by ten minutes and I thought 'enough is enough'. I'm quite new to facebook and have been following your adventures though, I don't envy you the cold days. I still remember one afternoon in winter at Hexham as the coldest I've ever known. That course is just set up to make the winter punter suffer! Cheers. Tony
ReplyDeleteTony, thanks for the comment. Im actually happier betting at home, but the odd trip to the course does me no harm. You can bet oncourse with your lap top and dongle subject to reception, but you may as well stay warm and the traffic is a killer.
